 The core of my work is abstract expres­sion­ism. I enjoy the chal­lenge of real­ism in sub­jects but choose to focus on cap­tur­ing their iden­ti­ty in abstract. There is some­thing excit­ing about break­ing the rules of tra­di­tion to cre­ate a scene or still-life in blocks of col­or not true to real­i­ty. Abstract art is to me the mar­riage of imag­i­na­tion, spon­tane­ity and col­or. My lat­est col­lec­tion of abstract flo­rals and fig­ures is a con­tin­u­a­tion of my work at the School of the Art Insti­tute of Chica­go. Col­or has remained my prin­ci­ple aspect of paint­ing. Inspi­ra­tion comes from fam­i­ly, friends and nature. After many years of gar­den­ing, flo­ral sub­jects seem a nat­ur­al, there is a sense of urgency in cap­tur­ing their beau­ty that appeals to me.
