Vitromurales de Zacatlán
Mosaic Walls of ZacatlánThis, and the next three videos will give you an “almost like being there” look at
Zacatlán’s Vitromurales, the Mosaic walls. The artists, citizens of Zacatlán,
have created numerous mosaic walls throughout the city.
It has taken more than fifteen years and a lot of grit to accomplish this
incredible feat.  Sit back and take a walk with us through
the streets and alleyways of Zacatlán.

Danza de los Voladores de Cuetzalan
Dance of  the  Flyers

This ancient Mesoamerican ritual consists of a dance and then climbing
a 30-meter (98 ft 5 in) pole from which the Voladores then “launch”
themselves tied with ropes to descend, spinning around the pole,
to the ground.  According to myth, the ritual was started to ask
the gods to end a severe drought.  Although the ritual did not
originate with the Totonac people of Veracruz, Puebla,
and Hidalgo, it is strongly associated with them. Normally
five “birdmen” climb the pole. Once at the top, the main
dancer stands and performs a song and dance routine
involving a flute that is meant to mimic the sound of
birds singing. The other four birdmen, representing
the cardinal directions, spin around the pole
representing recreating the world
and regenerating life.
