The core of my work is abstract expressionism. I enjoy the challenge of realism in subjects but choose to focus on capturing their identity in abstract. There is something exciting about breaking the rules of tradition to create a scene or still-life in blocks of color not true to reality. Abstract art is to me the marriage of imagination, spontaneity and color. My latest collection of abstract florals and figures is a continuation of my work at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Color has remained my principle aspect of painting. Inspiration comes from family, friends and nature. After many years of gardening, floral subjects seem a natural, there is a sense of urgency in capturing their beauty that appeals to me.
"Make it beautiful and likeable, there is enough ugly in the world!"
